First, take the exact measurements that you want for your desk. Now cut your plywood desk top with the aid of a table saw. Carefully cut the plywood piece into required dimensions to ensure the size fits your needs. Make sure you use all necessary protective accessories like protective safety goggles and protective gloves while sawing. These items are best precautionary tools that you must use in order to avoid any untoward incident.
Once you cut the plywood pieces into desired measures, apply trim to the desk top edges. Cut the trim pieces precisely into required sizes to ensure it fits the edges of the top. Now fix the trim onto the top. For this purpose, you can use nails and a hammer or a nail gun, whichever is easily available to you. Maintain at least 2 inches spacing between the nails to ensure the trim is tight to the top.
Now give fine finishing to your desk top and trim by applying stain and polyurethane. You can use a paintbrush to apply coats of stains. The number of coats you apply will vary depending upon the depth of the color you desire to achieve. You can continue coating until you achieve the desired color. Make sure while applying the coats, you allow each layer to dry completely.
Once you are done with stain coating, go on to apply polyurethane. Make one coating at a time. Allow each coat to dry thoroughly before applying the next layer. Though you may consider as many coatings as you think is fit, typically four to five coats of polyurethane is sufficient.
Now attach circular brackets to the underside of the top. You can either use screws or nails for attaching the brackets to the four corners of the desk top.
Fix metal conduit into the circular brackets with screws. It is always better to use 3-foot-tall and 2-inch thick metal conduit pipe that is sheared with grooves.
Now turn your desk over. Your desk is ready to be used. Organize your supplies for work.
